Powers and Abilities[]

Legend[]

The Amamehagi of legend is a variant of the oni Namahage from Ishikawa Prefecture. Its name derives from "amame", blisters that appear when one lazes around a hearth for too long, and "hagi" meaning to tear off, as this yōkai would peel off the blisters on those who refuse to work.

A group of Amamehagi would appear on snowy nights on New Year's Eve and would threaten to take and devour any lazy or misbehaved children. Farmers would welcome the Amamehagi into their homes and treat them to amazake, vowing to work hard all year long.
