Daidarabotchi (ダイダラボッチ Daidarabotchi) is a giant yōkai and antagonist of Kitarō.
Appearance[]
Daidarabotchi is a giant yōkai with a lanky body and a large bald head and face that resembles a Moai statue. His rib cage is visible through his skin while his belly sticks out a bit. With this, his general appearance slightly resembles Gaki.
In the second anime, his design is more realistic, looking very human-like with dark brown skin and a muscular build. His eyes have white sclerae and black pupils. His only piece of clothing is the red fundoshi that covers his crotch area.[1]
In the third anime his appearance is back to his more exaggerated, Moai-like design. His large eyes now have red sclerae while his teeth are large, block and yellow. He is still has dark brown skin, but is now more frail looking and has a potbelly.[2]
In the fourth anime, his head is less exaggerated, his skin is now yellow green, his large eyes have returned to its white sclerae from before, but now has smaller pupils and he has thick red lips. He is still frail looking and his limbs appear to be longer.[3]
Personality[]

In the 1985 anime, the group to worship Daidarabotchi was trying to recover nature, and Daidarabotchi, while its brain was sealed away, didn't contain its brain while it could do so when Nurarihyon was defeated, and it smiled to Kitarō and went back to the underground by itself to sleep again.
In the 1996 anime, Daidarabotchi without its brain mindlessly devoured surrounding terrains and buildings, and especially disputing humans.
History[]
1971 Anime[]
Daidarabotchi appears in episode # 29 of the second anime adaptation, Daidarabotchi. In this adaptation, he used to rule Japan 1,000 years ago, but was slain and body parts severed and buried in several parts of the country. A cult in the modern day later rediscovered and summons the disembodied parts, first the eyeballs, which later surround Sunakake-Babaa's house after chasing Kitarō and Ittan-Momen, the nose in Chichibu, which releases a large booger that injures a charcoal griller, and the mouth in Hakone, as the news reports on all of this. The first three parts later conjoin and float around Japan. When his legs are awakened in Nagoya at night, and his hands awakened in Kyūshū, and the rest of his body summoned elsewhere, he soon reforms and attacks the news crew, shouting he'll destroy Japan. Sure enough, he does in the span of a week, attacking the Self-Defense Forces, eating the Ōsumi Peninsula, and smoking Sakurajima like a cigar. Turns out, he did this all without a brain, which was buried in Shuhodo Cave in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The brain was later touched by Kitarō's hand, which causes him to fall over and turn into new land in place of Kagoshima Prefecture, which he ate prior to this.

Long ago, the Daidarabotchi sat on Mt. Fuji, watching over Japan as humans and Yōkai coexsited. However he was eventually sealed away, separated into eight different spots across Japan.[4]
Final Chapter: Nurarihyon Arc[]
The Daidarabotchi's brain is unsealed by Nurarihyon, who then orders the Shichinin Dōgyō to unseal the rest of him. His eyes are the first to be unsealed, followed by the nose and mouth, which the parts are drawn to one another, forming a face. While floating away, Kitarō and Medama-Oyaji ride on Ittan-Momen to get closer to him. The nose soon exhales, sending them away, causing the face to laugh. The legs are soon unsealed, landing near the Shichinin Dōgyō, opening a trench which they use to send Kitarō and a man named Kadokuro into it. Soon his arms and torso are unsealed, and after a short battle his head follows suit. The body parts join together, completing Daidarabotchi. After stepping on the Shichinin Dōgyō, he goes to the nearest town wreaking havoc, before being ordered by Nurarihyon to get his brain. However as the brain leaves the ground, Kadokuro stabs it, killing the Daidarabotchi, where his body and brain fades into light.[4]
The Great Yōkai War: Guardians[]
Daidarabotchi served as an important figure who didn't make any actual appearance in the film. His exact identity is unclear, however he is regarded by some as the sire of Yōkai, and are feared and exclusively refereed by Yōkai as "that lord" (あの御方 Ano-Okata). Protagonists decided to summon the Dai-Majin to stop the Yōkaijū to prevent it from awakening Daidarabotchi by passing through Tokyo and destroys the spiritual barrier which seals the giant while freeing Daidarabotchi to cause a havoc in the world was the purpose of Yasunori Katō, and the demonic man was controlling the Yōkaijū.
