Devadatta (提婆達多 Daibadatta) was a villainous monk from the manga series "GeGeGe no Kitarō." After his death, he turned into a wretched Mizuchi.
Appearance[]
Devadatta's Mizuchi has a serpentine body, a long tail, a large pair of wings and four limbs with three toes on each forelimbs, that has sharp claws. He has hair around his head, a pair of little horns, a pair of whiskers, and sharp teeth in his mouth, overall making him somewhat resemble a Shusse-Bora.
Devadatta's Mizuchi is noted to be immensely large as Kitarō and others had to venture into its body for some time when they were swallowed by the Mizuchi.
Personality[]
He relentlessly pursued and attacked Buddhists including Kanjin to hinder their devotions, and destroyed the bridge to heaven. Even after reincarnating as a Mizuchi, he still held a a deep grudge towards Buddha.
History[]
Manga[]
His attempt to prevent Kanjin from attaining Buddhahood was stopped by Kṣitigarbha and Kitarō Family.
After being defeated, his exploded spirit energy and Kanjin's soul merged and formed a giant, pea tree-like vegetation and built a new bridge to the haven. In the epilogue, it was said that Devadatta's spirit recovered his own form and headed to the heaven.
Powers and Abilities[]
Soul Core: Devadatta's soul takes the form of a dark and dirty Buddhist tower within his body and is also the source of his Yōkai energy.
Mirage Breath: His breath can create various mirages to trap his targets and devour them, such as a beautiful naked woman to enthrall Kitarō.
