Legend[]
Furusoma is a sound phenomenon similar to Tengu-Daoshi found in the Kochi Prefecture. This phenomenon appears in mountains where the sound of woodcutters working followed by a tree being cut and then falling is heard, but there is nobody there nor any proof of trees being cut down. It is said to be the spirit of someone who died after being crushed by a tree or the spirit of a hermit who died from an injury while logging. In this case, "Soma" (杣) refers to a type of forest set up for the purposes of woodcutting.
