Illustration of Garandon
Garandon is a kami enshrined in Ryugatake Town, Amakusa County, Kumamoto. His physical representation is that of a stone about 50cm high, and is just placed on top of a surrounding area of stones, and has no proper shrine (though currently, it is enshrined in a small shrine built by local people).
Garandon is said to be a kami who punishes thieves. If something is stolen and the victim prays to him, within a few days, he will make the thief have stomach pains, revealing their identity to the rest of Ryugatake.
There exists a separate Garandon in Kagoshima Prefecture. This kami is said to be a Mizugami and Kōjin (荒神, God of Destruction).
