GeGeGe no Kitarō: Dai-Kaijū (ゲゲゲの鬼太郎 大海獣, GeGeGe no Kitarō: The Giant Sea Monster), released July 6, 1996, was the first movie based on the 1996 anime. It was based on the stories Yōkai Army and Dai-Kaijū.

Kitarō receives a letter from a young girl to locate her missing father who was last seen joining an expedition to Baruru Island to obtain the rumored Water of Life. When Kitarō and his allies get there, they are attacked by an army of South Asian Yōkai who desire vengeance against Japan for destroying their sacred land. They capture Kitarō and mutate him into a Dai-Kaijū, planning to use him to conquer Japan! Now, the Kitarō Family must find a way to restore Kitarō to normal before all of Japan is destroyed!
