Gekijōban GeGeGe no Kitarō: Nippon Bakuretsu!! (劇場版 ゲゲゲの鬼太郎 日本爆裂!!, GeGeGe no Kitarō the Movie: Japan Explodes!!), released December 20, 2008, was the only movie based on the 2007 anime. Unlike all previous films, this one was not based on any pre-existing stories.
It was accompanied by a short, GeGeGe Matsuri da!! Gonin Kitarō (ゲゲゲまつりだ!!五大鬼太郎, GeGeGe Festival! The Five Kitarōs).
Synopsis[]
A young girl named Hana writes a letter to Kitarō, asking for his protection from a yōkai that has been trying to hunt her. However, before he arrives Hana has already been captured by the yōkai Kagami-Jijii.
