Genbu (玄武 Genbu), the Black Tortoise, is one of the Four Gods and is the protector of the North in the 1989 Akuma-kun anime.
Appearance[]
Genbu is a giant tortoise, with a dark, black shell, purple scales, four legs each having white claws. It has a long neck and tail with a white underside. Wavy green hair rests on its head, with matching eyebrows and tufts by the forelegs. Within its mouth are four fangs and a snake tongue. Its eyes are blank yellow, a trait shared with the other members of the Four Gods.

Hakutaku, a black-akuma from Japan, worked with and Pluto and Belial under Lucifer to control the Four Gods. They were awaken by this and were caught off-guard, falling under their control with ancient spiritual powers. They are then ordered to pull out the rock pillar of the underworld. The black-akuma fought against Shingo and the Apostles who came to stop the Four Gods, and they cornered them. However, the Four Gods were freed from the curse with Solomon's Flute with Shingo and others' energies, and the animal gods instantly defeated and vanished the black-akuma into dusts.

The Black Tortoise, sometimes referred to as the Black Turtle, is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It represents the north, winter, the color black, and the water element in Wuxing. Normally it is depicted as a turtle entwined together with a snake. It is known by many names such as Xuanwu in Chinese, Genbu in Japanese, Huyền Vũ in Vietnamese and Hyeonmu or Hyunmoo in Korean. It is also known as the Black Warrior.
