Genshi-san (原始さん, lit. Primitive-san or Mr. Primitive) is a giant caveman-like , an ancient god or yōkai, who made his debut in a non-Kitarō 1969 story Genshi-san.
He is described to be a part of Earth's defense mechanisms, or an incarnation of Earth's will against environmental destruction by humans.
Appearance[]
In manga, his general appearance is more ape-like compared to animated adaptations with his body more heavily-covered with hairs, and wears less clothes. His fur has been depicted as brown, yellowish brown, or green.

1971 Anime[]
Genshi-san appears in episode #40 of the second anime adaptation, Genshi-san.
1985 Anime[]
Although Genshi-san does not appear in the third anime adaptation, his story is told with Yama-Otoko in episode #78, Mammoth Flower and Yama-Otoko.

- Gensi-san's design is presumably a reuse of the cave man within the illustration of the Great Dinosaur of China by Shigeru Mizuki.
- The characteristics of Yama-Otoko in the 1985 anime is based on Genshi-san and Jōmon Man.[1]
