Anime[]
Haita-Denka appears in Episode Three of the 1989 Akuma-Kun anime. In this episode, him and his kin caused toothaches around the world, and currently affect Shingo Umoregi's and Kirihito's families while in Japan. When Shingo and Mephisto II release Zōjin out of Kirihito's father, the Haita-Kin inside of him escapes, causing the elephant akuma to chase after them. At night, Shingo confronts Haita-Denka, but gets attacked by multiple other Haita-Kin. After a while, Mephisto II returns to distract the Haita-Kin, meanwhile Shingo handles Haita-Denka by summoning Yūko as bait. After sleeping for a while, Yūko wakes up and traps the creeping akuma inside of the Demon Mirror.
Abilities[]
A Haita-Kin entering a tooth
Levitation: Haita-Denka is capable of floating in the air.[1]
Haita-Kin Generation: Haita-Denka has command over his servants, the Haita-Kin, which he stores within his body and can release to cause toothaches and attack his foes.[1]
Legend[]
Illustration of Haita-Denka by Shigeru Mizuki.
Haita-Denka seems to be based on Aunty Toothache from the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Anderson, wherein at least one of Mizuki's yokai dictionaries it is featured in describes it similarly to the titular character. Its design heavily takes inspiration from one specific illustration of the story where a skeletal figure is above a person in bed, picking in their mouth.
