Kabo Mandalat, known from Maori demonology, is a feared goddess with the appearance of a giant female Hermit crab with legs as big as coconut trees, living in a gigantic Brown Sargassum shell, occasionally described as having a human face. She is known to cause and cure Elephantiasis. Her claws are 1 meter in diameter, and each leg is as wide as a coconut tree. She attacks boats that sail over her underwater and eats those onboard. When angered she sneaks into a bedroom unnoticed, and breathes a foul breath into her victim's body, giving them Elephantiasis. The locals of Pott Island have a sacred place called Tsiabouat, that is devoted to her, and sacrificial offerings are left here to prevent her from attacking.[1]
