Kagami-Jijii (鏡爺) is a GeGeGe no Kitarō story that first appeared as a chapter of the Shonen Magazine run. It has been adapted for the 1968, 1985, 1996 and 2018 anime versions of "GeGeGe no Kitarō".

Plot[]
While walking along a road one day, Kitarō and Medama-Oyaji come across an abandoned house and stop for the night. After laying down, Kitarō is attacked by an invisible entity. After Kitarō defeats the unseen assailant, Medama-Oyaji inspects it and discovers it is actually a human girl. She tells them that her image was stolen by Kagami-Jijii, a yōkai who lives in mirrors and likes to prey on pretty girls. Kitarō agrees to retrieve her image and goes outside to see if he can locate Kagami-Jijii with his yōkai antenna.
They find him in an old shack, leering at the girl's image in a hand-held mirror. Kitarō knocks on the door, pretending to be an innocent traveler, and tries to take him by surprise. However, as Kagami-Jijii lives in the mirror world, he has no physical form, so Kitarō falls right through him. Kagami-Jijii throwws him into the mirror, stealing his image, and goes in after to finish him off. The invisible Kitarō in the real world informs Medama-Oyaji that he plans to break the mirror from the inside, which will destroy Kagami-Jijii but might also seal his image away forever. Before Kitarō can act, Kagami-Jijii comes out of the mirror and attacks Medama-Oyaji. The invisible Kitarō grabs onto Kagami-Jijii, which results in him forcing Kagami-Jijii's spirit out of his body. Kagami-Jijii's spirit escapes to the mirror, but Kitarō has taken over his real world form and breaks the mirror.
With Kagami-Jijii defeated and the magic mirror destroyed, Kitarō and the girl both have their images returned to them.
