A Kappa (河童) appears as a main character in Shigeru Mizuki's "Kappa no Sanpei". He accompanies Sanpei Kawahara from the Kappa Country back to the human world in order to learn more about humans.
He has had different names across the different "Sanpei" adaptations, including Kanpei (かん平), Kanko (カン子) and Gātarō (ガータロー). He is sometimes even referred to simply as Kappa. Though normally depicted as male, he was changed into a girl for the TV drama.
