Kingyo-no-Yūrei are goldfish yōkai originating in a story from the Baika Hyōretsu. A woman named Monohana was taken in by the samurai Karakoto Uraemon as a surrogate mother. But his wife Kakehashi and their neighbor Sabunta conspired to kill Monohana by tying her with a noose and having her head shoved into a goldfish bowl. Monohana's grudge transformed the goldfish in the bowl into yōkai and haunted the pair as revenge.
