Kyōkotsu (狂骨 Kyōkotsu, lit. Crazy Bones) is a spirit-like skeleton yōkai.[1]
Appearance[]
Kyōkotsu is a skeletal yōkai with pink skin, visible ribs, long bony arms with folds of his tattered skin falling and a long wispy tail. He is bald, with the exception of the long, shoulder length white hair on the sides to the back of his head. He lacks any eyes, instead he has black gaping eye sockets and he is missing several teeth.[1]

Multiple Kyōkotsu were featured in the 2023 movie The Birth of Kitarō: Mystery of GeGeGe.

Onibi: Kyōkotsu in the 2023 film can produce and manipulate onibi to attack targets.

Legend[]
The Kyōkotsu was depicted by Toriyama Seiken in the Konjaku Hyakki Shūi, resembling a skeletal figure rising out from a well. They are formed from the grudge of those who died in a well, either they fell or were thrown in. Unable to reach Buddahood due to the lack of a proper burial, these spirits haunt anyone who comes near the well they dwell in.
