Mamoru Hosoda (細田守) is a film director and animator, known for his works for many anime, most notably his own movies and Digimon series.

He debuted as a screenwriter with his work in GeGeGe no Kitarō (1996).[1]
He is the chief of the Studio Chizu, a studio he created after he was suggested by Hayao Miyazaki not to join the Studio Gibli.

- GeGeGe no Kitarō: Dai-Kaijū and Coo From a Distant Sea are some of his earliest movie careers. Interestingly, both films feature cetaceans as important characters, and Hosoda has been using "whales" as key characters or images in all of his works since The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
- According to the interview on PLUS MADHOUSE 3 細田守, Hosoda admitted that images from The Spirit of the Beehive inspired for his work for Series 4 Episode 113.
