Menko-Tengu (めんこ天狗) is a tengu and antagonist of Kitarō.

Appearance[]

In the manga, Menko-Tengu is boy with a round and bald head. He wears a light-colored kimono with a dark monk robe, a black tokin, and a pair of geta.

Within the 1985 manga, Menko-Tengu's barely changes, being a bald boy with fair skin and a buck tooth. He wears a purple kimono with a black trim, a beige satchel, a black tokin tied with purple string, and a pair of brown geta.

Personality[]

In the 1985 anime, Menko-Tengu loves Menko and is eager to play it with humans while pretending he's a human himself. However, since the game is considered outdated, he rarely actually plays with anyone. He doesn't takes the declines seriously and either kidnaps those who don't have time to play and orders them to make Menko or turns them into Menko directly. Despite his childish behavior, he has a very deep voice.

Menko (面子) is a Japanese game that has been around since the 17th century. Similar to the more recent game Pogs, players lay down cards on the floor and throw other cards at them trying to knock them over.
