The Mizu-Yōkai (水妖怪 Mizu-Yōkai) inhabits the Odoroga swamp found in the GeGeGe Forest.[1]
Appearance[]
The Mizu-Yōkai takes the form of a mass of green swamp water, that is constantly dripping itself. Eyebrows formed from the water rest above a pair of black eyes with small pupils pointing in different directions, and his fingers end with long white claws.[1]
Personality[]
He is shown to be rather eccentric and seems to be hungry at the sight of potential food. Despite being among the peaceful yōkai living in GeGeGe Forest, he is still willing to consume humans. However, he is understandable, albeit disappointed, if he should not eat humans who are guests.[1]
History[]
Gegege no Kitarō[]
Mizu-Korogashi (水ころがし, lit. Water rolling)'s design was likely based on Mizu-Yōkai.
Saishinban GeGeGe no Kitarō[]
2018 Anime[]
The Mizu-Yōkai came out from the Odoroga Swamp when Kitarō and Neko-Musume were giving Yūta a tour of GeGeGe Forest. He mistook Yūta for food and asked Kitarō if he could eat him. After Kitarō refused and explained that Yūta was his guest, he calmly disappeared back into the swamp for a nap, albeit disappointed.[1]
Western Yōkai Arc[]
He appears again in episode #28 along with the other yōkai of the forest to help Kitarō fight off the Western Yōkai, lashing at Carmilla's bats.[2]
He is among the yōkai who witnesses Agnès' return to the forest, joining in the pelting of threats and rocks at the young witch. He and the others stop once Neko-Musume protects by Agnès and walks with her, followed by the other Kitarō Family members. He soon joins the crowd of yōkai gathered around the GeGeGe House, trying to drive Agnès out of the forest. Medama-Oyaji tries to warn them that if they drive her out then the tragedy of the Malay yōkai will repeat somewhere else. He listens to Kitarō as he explains how grave the consequences are if Japan becomes a part of Backbeard's empire. This causes the crowd to look at one another until their attention is drawn to Kitarō as he stands on his resolve to fight.[3]
