The Mt. Kurama Karasu-Tengu (鞍馬山のカラス天狗 Kurama-yama no Karasu-Tengu) is a Karasu-Tengu who appears in the Shonen Magazine story Akuma Belial.

Appearance[]

In the manga, the Mt. Kurama Karasu-Tengu is specifically based on the illustration of a Karasu-Tengu from the Kyōka Hyaku Monogatari (狂歌百物語) by Ryūkansai (Masasumi Ryūkansaijin), but lacking wings. He has round, bald head, with only a piece of hair in the middle and back, a curved beak, tilted eyes, humanoid ears, and a short, wide body. He wears a striped, chanchanko vest, tied over his kimono, and baggy shorts.

In the 1968 anime, the Mt. Kurama Karasu-Tengu now has pointier ears, and wears a large tokin on his forehead.

In the 1985 anime, the Mt. Kurama Karasu-Tengu is taller and older, with greenish-pale skin, a tall beak-shaped mouth, white hair, large eyebrows covering his eyes, a bald forehead, sideburns, a long goatee, and large wings. He wears a green and red chanchanko with green stripes, a black kimono, white socks, and dark sandals.

In the 1996 anime, the Mt. Kurama Karasu-Tengu is back to looking more like his manga counterpart, but has more spaced-out eyes and a shorter neck. He has light-brown skin, a tan kimono, and gray hakama.

Personality[]

In the manga, he seems to be as skilled and noble as most Karasu-Tengu, removing Belial's powers so that he couldn't harm the people of Japan, but is prone to being caught off-guard. He is also shown to care about the safety of the yōkai in Japan in Shinpen GeGeGe no Kitarō.

In the 1968 anime, the Mt. Kurama Karas-Tengu is also shown to be good at swordsmanship, and even knows Nezumi-Otoko (who is untrustworthy towards) and Kitarō by name.

In the 1985 anime, the Mt. Kurama Karasu-Tengu is skilled at ordering other Karasu-Tengu in fighting, and is also a pretty apt fighter on his own.

About a century as passed, and in the meantime the Karasu-Tengu has been peacefully sleeping in his home in Mt. Kurama. After Belial regains his powers, he heads to the mountain to seal the Karasu-Tengu, as to guarantee he doesn't lose his powers again. When the Karasu-Tengu wakes up, he commands an army of insects to send out a S.O.S message to the GeGeGe House. After he defeats Belial, Kitarō heads to Mt.
