A Nebutori named Haruka appears in episode #80 of the fifth anime adaptation, Beautiful Woman and Nebutori! Continuous Yōkai Incidents.[1]

Fat Manipulation: In the 2007 anime, when a Nebutori eats a large amount of food and falls asleep after, their body fat expands to the point of overflowing a room. This usually does not last long as they wake up not long after and their fat recedes. However, if they somehow remain unconcious, their body fat continues to expand until they awaken once more. People have occassionally gotten trapped within the fat, where they remain in there until the Nebutori's body expands to certain point.[1]

The Nebutori in legends have been regarded as a supernatural illness of humans rather than a yōkai. This phenomenon affects women while they sleep, making their bodies swell up to the point they protrude from the room as they snore loudly. A Nebutori is sometimes blamed on a tanuki possession. This phenomenon is thought to have been a warning against women sleeping excessively.
The name Nebutori is a Japanese play on words with the kanji ne (寝, lit. sleep) and futori (太り, lit. to gain weight).
