Raijin is the god of thunder, lightning, and thunderstorms in Shintoism belief. Multiple taiko drums surround him which he uses to create the sound of thunder. He is usually accompanied by his partner or brother god, Fujin. He and Fujin were said to be the children of Izanami and escaped from the underworld after being sent to chase Izanagi. Mothers would warn children to hide their belly buttons on rainy nights or else Raijin would take them.
The physical appearance and characteristics of Kaminari is based on Raijin.
