Rental manga (貸本漫画, Kashihon Manga) was a term formerly used for manga produced to be sold as rentals. They came as digest magazines, as many manga is produced today, or as stand alone book releases.

Shigeru Mizuki began drawing rental manga in 1957, debuting in 1958 with Rocketman for Togetsu. It was the second phase in his art career after spending the rest of the 50s as a Kamishibai artist. He would continue drawing rental manga until the industry began to die out in the mid-60s.

Mizuki's three most famous works began as rental manga: GeGeGe no Kitarō (as Hakaba Kitarō), Akuma-kun and Kappa no Sanpei.
