Main characters[]
Kenta Yamada[]
Kenta Yamada (山田 健太 Yamada Kenta) is a middle school boy who appears as a friend of Kitarō's in the Mizuki Pro manga Saishinban GeGeGe no Kitarō. He first appears in the first chapter Return of the Great Yōkai Gasha-Dokuro. In the first chapter, he is bullied by his classmate who is cursed by Gasha-Dokuro and attempts suicide. He is saved by Kitarō, however, and soon befriends him and makes several visits to the GeGeGe Forest. In chapter 11, Nurarihyon's Final Battle, it is revealed that he is in the same class as Yumeko Tendō.
Jōhōya[]
Jōhōya (情報屋) is a friend of Shingo Yamada who first appears in the Shonen Magazine version of Akuma-kun. He later appears in the Comic Bom Bom version and it's subsequent 1989 anime adaptation. His name is Japanese for "informant".
In the Shonen Magazine version he and Hinta frequently tag along with Shingo during his Akuma exterminations. He was born on a special day when Mars is at it's closest to Earth, and for that reason he is frequently targeted by the yōkai Hyakume. He would often try to bribe Mephisto into doing things, usually by offering him his favorite snacks, chocolate and coffee.
In the Comic Bom Bom version and the anime, he is an abrasive photographer always on the lookout for the latest scoop and dreams of one day having one of his photos published in a real newspaper. He is too curious for his own good and often lands in trouble during his investigations, such as being brainwashed by Hyakume or being turned to stone by Azuki-Togi. Because of all of this, Shingo does not trust him and keeps his double life as an exorcist a secret from Jōhōya. After learning Shingo's secret, however, he is always willing to help out and is shown to never doubt his ability to defeat an Akuma.
