Sasquatch (サスカッチ Sasukacchi), more commonly referred to as Bigfoot (ビッグフット Biggu Futto), is a famous cryptid from North America, said to resemble a hairy human or ape. It is said to be about 3.2 meters tall and weighs about 500 kg, and its stride is said to be about 1.8 meters.
In 1974, footprints believed to belong to Sasquatch were discovered, measuring 45 cm in length and 17.5 cm in width.
In modern times, some cryptozoologists believe Sasquatch are living neanderthals, ground sloths, or prehistoric bears. It has also been tied to evil spirits from Native American folklore like the Wendigo. Cryptozoologists have also considered other, similar creatures from myth and folklore around the world, like the Yeti from Nepal, the Mapinguari from Brazil, and the Yama-Otoko, Hibagon, Yama-Warawa, Hihi, Satori, Yama-Jijii, Sarugami, Ijū, Shōjō, and Yama-Oni from Japan, to be variants of the Sasquatch, all of them being a species of undiscovered great apes.
