Legend[]
Seko are a type of kappa from the Oita Prefecture. They resemble 2-to-3 year-old children and like to imitate people wandering in the mountains and playing tricks on women and children. If one builds a house on a pathway they pass through, the Seko will shake the house and leave you unable to sleep. But because the Seko hates sardines, if you mention that you will be eating sardines, they will leave you alone.
They are also known to trick hunters in the mountains by impersonating animal sounds to lead them astray. If you're being tricked, apologizing and saying “It was my fault this time” will let you be free.
