Synopsis[]
If three leeches are raised in the extract of a Kin-Sanchū for several hundred years, they'll become the legendary Chinese Hi Clan. Back in Japan, Konaki-Jijii, who was going to attend a meeting, instead got drunk near the riverside with a Bake-Garasu. As he was minding his own business, the Hi Clan appears and one of them spits out a ray that causes seemingly hurts Konaki. Sunakake-Babaa and Shisa look for Konaki-Jijii in the bamboo forest, but are soon ambused by the Hi Clan too, with Sunakake recognizing them. Back at the GeGeGe House, Kitarō compiles several letters from the Yōkai Post, this time addressed to yōkai themselves. The letters mention yōkai "evaporating". The Bake-Garasu and Ittan-Momen appear to report that Konaki-Jijii and Sunakake-Babaa have gone missing!
While digging through the trash, Nezumi-Otoko sees two girls passing by holding a Shisa plush. He follows them to a newly opened doll shop also selling cheap but cute plush of the M.I.A Sunakake-Babaa and Konaki-Jijii. The owner of the shop gets a knock on the door from Nurarihyon and Shu-no-Bon. The sinister old man seems to know this is the work of the Hi Clan, and requests a Kitarō plush. The duo later enter to see the owner's family, and Nurarihyon requests they work together to create a yōkai empire. Instead, the owner of the shop and father of the family gets commanded by a god they worship to turn more Japanese yōkai into plush! The owner spits out purple gas that turns Nurarihyon into a plush, as his daughter laughs and Shu-no-Bon cries as he holds it. Shu-no-Bon runs away and escapes just in time, as Nezumi-Otoko calls out to him, the owner's wife noticing them. The god then commands the family to attack Kitarō.
Nezumi-Otoko and Shu-no-Bon visit the GeGeGe House, and Medama-Oyaji says that all things have natural inverses: Heaven and Earth, poisonous cobras and mongoose, and the Hi Clan and yōkai. The Hi Clan posses a substance inside their bodies that seals the power of whatever yōkai they fought, making them unbeatable by them. As a result, every time the Hi Clan fought yōkai, they were always able to push them to near extinction. Kitarō hears the Hi Clan outside and heads out to face them in his own, the others being too scared. Meanwhile, Ittan-Momen will carry everyone else to safety in another place. Kitaro and the Hi Clan end up fighting each other, but even after he sends his Hair Needles, geta, and Yōkai Ocarina, the clan do nothing but sinisterly laugh. The Hi Clan start shapeshifting, flying all over the place, before they all spit a ray with turns Kitarō into another plush. After their victory, the Hi Clan shows the plush to their altar. Meanwhile, Nezumi-Otoko, Medama-Oyaji and Neko-Musume, who all escaped with Ittan Momen, rest at an old Buddhist temple, with Shu-no-Bon also being brought and crying about never seeing Nurarihyon again. Medama-Oyaji was able to order Ittan-Momen to collect a suicide squad of yōkai so that they could enter the Hi Clan's source of power: the shrine they worship. Ittan-Momen returns with four members of the Flame Yōkai Five, Abura-Sumashi, Nurikabe, and Kemedama. Additionally, Shu-no-Bon uses his Yōkai Hō technique to call upon Nurarihyon's other minions. When they appear, they reveal themselves as villains Kitarō fought previously, however even they seem too scared to fight the Hi Clan. When they realize their leader was already defeated, the minions leave, and so the heroes have to work with what they have.
They sneak out at night to the doll shop, but even the flame yōkai are turned into keychains, and soon the Hi Clan appear with the plush Kitarō on the father's staff. Nezumi-Otoko, Neko-Musumen and Shu-no-Bon are able to blow away the rays the clan is emitting. Abura-Sumashi sends Medama-Oyaji and Kemedama outside, but gets turned into a plush in the process. Just as Shu-no-Bon succumbs to the rays, all of Nurarihyon's other minions return and fend off the clan, but even they're turned into plush. A yōkai inside the Hi Clan's shrine gets the offering money and happily counts it, saying she'll use it to establish a yōkai empire in Japan as Medama-Oyaji, Kemedama, and Ittan-Momen watch her through the window. They also see a room full of jars, which they then fall into, falling on top of a chest. They hear someone inside crying out to be released, so Kemedama uses one of his hairs to unlock the chest, and out pops out a small, worm-like insect. The yōkai overhears them and gets ambushed by the insect, and so Medama-Oyaji and Kemedama ask who she is as she writhes in pain. She reveals she is Onna-Yasha from China, who created the Hi Clan out of poisonous insects, placing multiple of them in a can and letting them devour each other on the day of Tango no Sekku and to leaving them for a year, then re-opening the seal and getting out the last surviving insects and feed them with a spirit plant said to grow once every few hundred years called Adada (安駝駝) from Yunnan Province, and making a liquid, which is a mixture of water and feces of the insect, and then keep leeches within the liquid, which would lead them to grow into the clan. Normally, the insects inside would worship their owners as gods, but in this case Onna-Yasha incurred the wrath of the surviving insect, the Kin-Sanchū, who held a grudge against her after they were forced to prepared food for the Hi Clan. She also directs them to a jar containing the cure for the Hi Clan's actions.
After Onna-Yasha dies, Medama-Oyaji and Kemedama head back outside to spread the cure to the plushes, and Kitarō is the first one to be cured. He uses his chanchanko to make the Hi Clan fly near the sea and fall, and they all release toxins that turn them back into leeches. The heroes head back to thank Nurarihyon and his subordinates for helping, Kitarō even offering they stop fighting. Nurarihyon still doesn't value Kitarō enough to help him again, and the villains all leave, laughing maniacally. The rest of the now freed yōkai cheer Kitarō on inside the Buddhist temple, as the sun rises.
