Synopsis[]

A large, evil spirit, and an old hermit battle, ending with the spirit's body being trapped in a sealing stone, while his consciousness trapped in a toad. Kitarō reads a letter from the Yōkai Post from a young boy from an unknown village, supposedly housing a toad yōkai eating their crops. When Kitarō flies on Bake-Garasu to get their, he lands only to see the village abandoned. A toad appears, and gestures Kitarō to follow it, and leads him to a pond with a stone tied with a rope on the shore. The toad cries and makes gestures to push the stone, and when Kitarō does after some words from Medama-Oyaji, he suddenly gets engulfed in black smoke, as he dives into the water, laughing. The evil sprit, the yōkai Jami laughs, and Medama recognizes him as being defeated by the hermit Gama-Sennin. As Kitarō reemerges, he finds out he's been turned into a toad, and as Jami laughs at them again. A shadowy figure hides behind a tree.

As Kitarō and Medama-Oyaji try to push the stone, Medama plans to turn himself into a toad so Kitarō can turn back to normal. Jami accepts his request and Kitarō gets his body back, however the yōkai pounces on the boy's body! As Kitarō gets back up, it's revealed he's been infected with Jami's poisonous green smoke, that turns normal people insane, and throws and stomps on Medama-Oyaji. It's revealed that Nurarihyon baited Kitarō by writing as a young boy. In a bank,

Nezumi-Otoko tries to borrow money, but the staff wouldn't let him, even when he offers his stinky, 1,000 year-old cloak as collateral. As Nezumi is about to exit, he notices Kitarō, who then robs the bank, using his geta to damage a light, and steals a bag of money. Nezumi-Otoko tries to get on Kitarō's good side, but since he literally doesn't have one right now, he gets thrown and Kitarō walks off. Nezumi follows Kitarō, as he hits a bus with his Hair Needles, and disorients the drivers with his chanchanko, and later steals the money of the bus. Nezumi-Otoko follows Kitarō all the way back to the forest, but hides after he sees him working for Jami and Nurarihyon. Meanwhile, Medama-Oyaji walks with a cane as a toad. Neko-Musume sees a news report on the "mysterious chanchanko boy's" (Kitarō's) bank robbery, and is shocked. She heads outside the GeGeGe House, and Konaki-Jijii and Sunakake-Babaa also learn of this incident, this time in a newspaper. The trio later fly on Ittan-Momen and Bake-Garasu to the forest Kitarō went to. Neko accidentally steps on a toad, who reveals himself as Medama-Oyaji. He tells the trio to go to Gama-Sennin's house, since he defeated the yōkai he was tricked by, Jami. As they walk to the hermit's house, they meet Jami and the insane Kitarō, as Nurarihyon and Nezumi-Otoko secretly watch. The trio run away, as Sunakake throws sand in Kitarō's eye, but "Jami-sama" tells him to still follow them to Gama-Sennin's house.

The trio find the hermit's house, a large tree, and Medama-Oyaji goes inside for them. As Gama-Sennin notices they're locked in, Kitarō and Jami show up to wrap the hermit's house with rope and burn it, as Neko-Musume, Konaki-Jijii, and Sunakake-Babaa hide behind bushes. Gama-Sennin tells Medama to get a Yōkai Mushroom on the wall to light a mushroom lamp, and draws a door on the wall with it using a wand. Kitarō, who was secretly peeking throw the windows, sees this and decides to follow the hermit. He uses Gama-Sennin's wand/staff, which he left behind, to draw his own door to enter. As he enters, Kitarō floats in a void surrounded by plants, and Gama-Sennin laughs as he says they're in a forest of another dimension. Kitarō uses his Hair Needles on the hermit, but is responded with the plants entangling his body, as he appears to touch his body to disguise himself as the boy. Gama-Sennin (as Kitarō) heads outside to trick Jami, who questions how he survived. Gama-Sennin says he'll get some water, and runs as Neko, Konaki, and Sunakake watch. To check if Gama-Sennin was actually defeated, Jami tries to break his home, but since he couldn't find him, he decides to burn the whole place just in case. In reality, the hermit throws another Yōkai Mushroom at the sealing stone, causing Jami to be resealed again.

Gama-Sennin returns, and the real Kitarō emerges from his burning house, with Medama-Oyaji turning back to normal. As Nurarihyon's plot is thwarted, Nezumi-Otoko hides above a tree to steal their stolen money. Despit his house burning down because of him, Kitarō thanks Gama-Sennin, before Ittan-Momen reappears to tell them Nezumi-Otoko is nearby. Eventually, he gets caught by Kitarō and his friends, and gives back the money offscreen. In the GeGeGe House, Neko-Musume laughs at how the newspaper describes Nezumi during Kitarō's bank robbery.
