Synopsis[]

In the sunset, Kitarō flies near Mt. Fuji, carried by Bake-Garasu, when he notices a yōkai crashing his car into a tree. Medama-Oyaji recognizes him as Beard, a yōkai from the U.S. He later notices Witch from France, Wolfman from Britain, Franken from Germany, and Yangtze Suiko from China all driving in cars. It's not just foreign yōkai, as when Kitarō goes down to investigate, Nopperabō and Neko-Sennin appear on their own cars! Nopperabō saus they have all come for a "Yōkai Rally" in Japan. The two eventually drive past Kitarō and nearly run him over, and when the smoke clears, the boy notices Nezumi-Otoko on the Yōkai Car!

Nezumi says he got invited to it after seeing an invitation in the Yōkai Post, and when he pulls out the letter, Kitarō notices purple powder inside it. Medama-Oyaji sees that the prize for the winner of the rally is a one wish-granting Yōkai Stone! Since Kitarō doesn't want the stone to fall into any bad hands, he (politely) pushes out Nezumi-Otoko out of the Yōkai Car to participate himself. Annoyed, Nezumi-Otoko steals a fish seller's truck to use in the rally. The rally will begin in the Aokigahara Forest. Magnetic objects from the drivers' vehicles won't work despite the amount of holes in various places. Kitarō notices Nezumi-Otoko still joining the rally. A floating skull explains the rules of the Yōkai Rally: There are four checkpoints on the rally's course that will be detonated every 10 minutes, and if you drive off course, you will drive into a pool of magma. Nezumi-Otoko gets nervous.

Meanwhile at the Yōkai Apartments, a parcel from an unknown sender is delivered at night and when Konaki-Jijii opens it, finds an old TV. Omce installed, it broadcasts a live showing of the Yōkai Rally. The others spot Nezumi-Otoko participating. Suddenly, Konaki-Jijii starts acting violent, but accidentally hits himself on the head with his own staff. Sunakake-Babaa recognizes powder on his face as as Evil Powder (凶悪粉, Kyōaku-ko), which turns anyone covered in it violent, and wonders why it's on the TV. The rally starts, Nezumi-Otoko and Kitarō left in the back. Nezumi starts to recklessly bump into Kitarō, and Medama-Oyaji realizes it's because the invitation he read was also exposed to Evil Powder. Two silhouettes seem to be the true masterminds of the rally, which has already garnered 5% "viewership", watching Kitarō.

Kitarō first drives into a hill with magma below. To get to the first checkpoint you have to climb a steep hill. Witch and Wolfman, who lack the horsepower, cannot climb. As a result, after Kitarō drives past them, Witch uses her broomstick to fly forward, cheating. Wolfman grabs onto the broomstick, and tries to stop Witch from moving, attacking her once the full moon hits, but the two of them get disqualified as they fall and explode. Kitarō and the tenants of the Yōkai Apartments (who have tied Konaki-Jijii up and looked at the TV with glasses) are shocked by this. The next checkpoint is where the bridge splits into two. One of the sides is a bad path that explodes and collapses. Yangzte Suiko and Franken wonder which side is bad, while Nopperabō and Nezumi-Otoko sweat profusely. Neko-Sennin spots a fish lying on the left side of the bridge, and the other cats that were at the back of his car start to run towards it, even though he says it could be a trap. Turns out, the fish were thrown by Nezumi-Otoko, and when Neko-Sennin drives towards the side, it turns out to be the bad one, as he explodes. Kitarō is shocked to see his former enemy fall into the magma, but Medama-Oyaji tells him they can just save after they get the Yōkai Stone. Thanks to Neko-Sennin's "death", the viewership rate rises to 42%! The tr mastermind, Nurarihyon, uses this rally as an opportunity to amass an army of evil yōkai. The ratings rise even further as Franken and Yangzte Suiko explode while driving through a ground filled with skulls. Currently, Nopperabō is leading, with Beard, Nezumi-Otoko, and Kitarō behind him. Neko-Musume cheers for Kitarō as Konaki-Jijii tries to escape. Kitarō has trouble driving as they make their way through a sand ground. While driving, Nopperabō spots a dessert meal in the distance, and runs to eat it. It suddenly disappears, and Nopperabō falls into the magma pool. Kitarō is shocked again. Nezumi-Otoko thinks he won't fall for tricks like that, but he spots a table full of money in the distance, and falls into the magma pool again, as it is just an illusion also. Kitarō looks on, embarassed. Shu-no-Bon thinks Kitarō might win, but Nurarihyon assures him he won't survive the final checkpoint, a log bridge. However to their shock, Kitarō quickly drifts on it. As Beard notices Kitarō overtaking him, he fires his eye ray twice at the boy that causes him to go numb. Neko-Musume gets worried. As Beard laughs maniacally, Kitarō uses his last bits of strength to ram into his car, causing him to hit a rock and explode.

Kitarō makes it to the finish line and wins, but when the skeleton shockingly announces his victory, he just asks it to give the Yōkai Stone already. Kitarō later spots Nuraihyon and Shu-no-Bon, and they quickly make a wish to defeat Kitarō, but he breaks in with on the Yōkai Car and chases the two away, causing them to run away. Rather than continue pursuing them, Kitarō wishes to revive all the other yōkai in the rally. As a result, even Konaki-Jijii turns back to normal, and all's well that ends well. (well, except for the fact that Nurarihyon escaped!)
