Synopsis[]
At night, Kitarō is taken to prison and is forced to lift a large boulder after using Gokuen Ranbu last time without Enma-Daiō's permission. The next day, the residents of the Yōkai Yokochō start to feel bad, and Abura-Sumashi rushes in to tell them something. Meanwhile, Kitarō tries to apologize to Gokan-Ō, but he doesn't accept it and leaves. Kuro-Karasu then tells Kitarō he'll come with him and the other Karasu-Tengu for The Great Yōkai Trial in the Hida Mountains. Meanwhile in Jigoku, Enma-Daiō finds a newspaper revealing Kitarō worked with humans to make money by photographing a secret yōkai bathspot. At night, Kitarō's friends say he would never do such a thing, but Medama-Oyaji assures them that the judge, his friend Dai-Tengu, will prove Kitarō's innocence for them. Kasa-Bake tells them that the first article of prosecution will already start today, shocking all of them.
As the Karasu-Tengu bang large Taiko drums inside the Yōkai Courthouse, Dai-Tengu sentences Kitarō to 1,000 years inside a cauldron. One of the jury, the yōkai Seko, adds that the cauldron will have poison that'll affect Kitarō forever. The yōkai Ama-no-Jaku and Te-no-Me also show up to tell Kitarō that the baths he filmed, which belonged to the philanthropist yōkai Momon-Jii, have already dried up due to the influx of people going there, and say he is a disgrace to others of their kind. Momon-Jii himself appears, and settles everyone else down. Kitarō tries to reason with Momon-Jii, but all he does is asks questions about his supposed con, and says he's nothing but a traitorous yōkai who gets money from humans. Neko-Musume and Sunakake-Babaa arrive, but the rest of the court finds Kitarō guilty already, Gokan-Ō secretly watching. Dai-Tengu says that if Kitarō doesn't prove his innocence in the next two deliberations, they'll actually sentence him! Neko-Musume goes outside to ask Kuro-Karasu if there's anything they can do to stop Kitarō's sentence, but he regretfully says there isn't. Meanwhile, Nezumi-Otoko reads about Kitarō's con while inside the car he rented from Hakusanbō, and is visited by Neko-Musume also. However, Neko leaves since she regrets calling out to someone who has no chance of becoming her friend. Momon-Jii appears, and congratulates Nezumi, seemingly working together. Even though Momon-Jii tells Nezumi-Otoko to be quiet, they are secretly watched by Kuro-Karasu.
In the first deliberation, Momon-Jii pledges to tell the truth, and holds a stone that projects all of Kitarō's previous villains. Makura-Gaeshi says that he was defeated after Kitarō tried to save a human, but Sunakake-Babaa says that only happened because he was attacking the human. Sunakake then asks where all of the other Yōkai Yokocho residents are, since they were also going to defend Kitarō. Sure enough, the residents find out a forcefield was placed that prevented them from escaping. Meanwhile, Te-no-Me and Ama-no-Jaku captured some of the alley's Tsurube-Bi, and Konaki-Jijii starts to worry. Momon-Jii tells Dai-Tengu that they need to strip Kitarō before placing him inside the cauldron, since they're also weapons. As a result, Kitarō is given a robe to wear, but he suddenly disappears, but Momon-Jii's nose manages to smell him, and hits the boy's invisible body with his Nose Hair Needles. As the deliberation is dismissed, Momon-Jii gloats inside a cave and bribes Nezumi-Otoko.
In the second deliberation, Kitarō at this point is already hanging above the cauldron, but Medama-Oyaji appears and says the severity will only be decided based on a testimony. The last witness, Nezumi-Otoko, appears, and also pledges to speak nothing but the truth. He holds the stone Momon-Jii held yesterday, however the yōkai presented now, notably Dodomeki, defend and thank Kitarō for forgiving them. Nezumi tells Momon-Jii that this will make more sense later, but then makes a bold move. Nezumi-Otoko reveals Momon-Jii is guilty, throwing away the money he was bribed with! Neko-Musume then realizes the books Nezumi was reading were about law. Meanwhile, Ama-no-Jaku and Te-no-Me are defeated by Nurikabe and Nurikabe-Nyōbō, and Rokuro-Kubi frees the Tsurube-Bi. Nezumi-Otoko then reveals Kuro-Karasu has already dealt with the human Kitarō supposedly worked with, and found out he was actually working with Momon-Jii, who accidentally creates an illusion of the Kitarō seen in the photograph, shocking everyone. Kitarō's friends then show up, and Dai-Tengu now orders the trial to be about Momon-Jii, but he retaliates with his Nose Hair Needles again. Kitarō is given back his clothes, and defeats Momon-Jii by using his Internal Electricity. Secretly, Nurarihyon also helped in defeating Momon-Jii, and leaves the cave. Kitarō is reunited with his friends, and they also thank Nezumi-Otoko. Kitarō still goes to prison to lift up the boulder, but is now helped by Kuro-Karasu, since he technically also disobeyed Dai-Tengu.
