Synopsis[]

A discarded shoe lying in a riverbank in town gets picked up by the yōkai Bake-Zōri, as the sky is gray and rainy. Bake-Zōri swears vengeance on the people who discard footwear after subjecting them to smelly feet for years. The next day, while both are in the Yōkai Yokochō, Hakusanbō and Nezumi-Otoko are down on their luck. Hakusanbō can't think of a performance in his theater, meanwhile Nezumi is hungry and wants money. The two of them reunite and hatch a new scheme quickly, and recruit the tenants of the Yōkai Apartments as performers, making Sunakake-Babaa very angry! After being convinced further by Nezumi, Kawauso thinks of the pretty girls in the audience, Kasa-Bake thinks of all the food he can eat, Konaki-Jijii thinks of all the alcohol he can drink, Amabie thinks of all the accessories she can buy, and Rokuro-Kubi thinks of popularizing her relationship with Makoto. Ittan-Momen and the Nurikabe family are also recruited, and Bake-Zōri appears in the alley. Bake-Zōri eventually joins the performers, however his intentions are to teach the humans a lesson, instead of fame like the others, and even maniacally laughs. Meanwhile, GeGeGe no Kitarō Wiki walks in the forest, but accidentally breaks the thong one of his geta while stepping on a pile of mud. After quickly tying the thong back, Kitarō is told by Neko-Musume about Hakusanbō's and Nezumi-Otoko's performers.

In the middle of the city, Kitarō and Neko-Musume go to Hakusanbō's Haunted Theater. Hakusanbō introduces Rokuro-Kubi first, who rides a Crow Helicopter while extending her neck to see the audience. Rokuro-Kubi comes to the floor to act as a jump robe for the Ko-Nurikabe, as Yōkai Yokochō GeGeGe Bushi plays. This confuses Bake-Zōri, who thought the performers would scare the audience. Nurikabe and Nurikabe-Nyōbō then act as clows on unicycles, using a seesaw to stack each other together. Konaki-Jijii performs with Hakusanbō, as the kitsune attempts to hit him with a mallet while turned into stone. Ittan-Momen then acts as a ride for some children, Kawauso and Amabie perform a performance in the water, and Kasa-Bake walks on a tight rope, falling and spreading glitter to the audience. As the audience cheers on Hakusanbō and the other performers, Bake-Zōri just sees this as pandering to humans, and quits. As the audience have a meet-and-greet with the yōkai, Bake-Zōri loses his temper afterbeing spotted by a young girl, who takes photos with him. As Hakusanbō celebrates his success, he apologizes and says he spent the money that would be shared with Nezumi-Otoko on preparations and performance fees. After feeling betrayed, Nezumi and Bake-Zōri decide to team up. While Hakusanbō's performers are enjoying their fame, Medama-Oyaji is against the idea of them interacting with humans again, but eventually warms up.

At the next performance, Nezumi-Otoko is now the showman (Hakusanbō was knocked out), confusing Sunakake-Babaa. Nezumi introduces Bake-Zōri, who grows and fires a ray at the audiejces that brings their footwear to life. The living footwear levitate and start spewing the smell of feet, attacking the audience. The rest of Hakusanbō's performers and Sunakake are also attacked by the living footwear. Hakusanbō freaks out after waking up and seeing what's happening, and tries to make Nezumi-Otoko reason with Bake-Zōri. Unfortunately for Nezumi, Bake-Zōri betrays him, and he gets attacked by the living footwear as well. Nezumi-Otoko eventually goes to the GeGeGe House to ask Kitarō (who was busy looking at Medama-Oyaji's knife-throwing act) for help. When Kitarō arrives, he uses his Hair Spear to swing at several of the living footwear, and fires his Hair Needles at Bake-Zōri's eye. Kitarō covers his nose with his chanchanko and uses his Internal Electricity and Hair Needles against the other footwear, however his geta turn evil after Bake-Zōri fires his ray at them. After usinh his hair to attack at first, Kitarō eventually defeats his geta by slicing their thongs with his Hair Spear. However, just as Kitarō is about to finish-off Bake-Zōri, the geta shield the yōkai. Eventually, Bake-Zōri shrinks abck down, and the footwear he brought to life turn back to normal. The geta tell Kitarō Bake-Zōri's true motives as Medama-Oyaji translates. After Kitarō apologizes, Bake-Zōri is so touched he breaks down, and Hakusanbō treats this as just part of the show, making the audience cheer.
