Synopsis[]

In a hospital at night in Shikabane Village, two nurses cover the face of an unconscious woman with a cloth. She appears to have died, despite her young age. Suddenly, the woman wakes up, her hair turns pale, and suddenly floats and sticks to the ceiling! The woman starts to roam the halls while laughing, but gets enraged after finding out all the doors leading outside are locked. In the morning, the woman reverts back to a dead body. Apparently, the director of the hospital had foreseen this body starting to move. Elsewhere, Kitarō gets a letter from Shikabane Village.

The hospital director's son, a young man named Taizō, is invited to the hospital after many years of studying in a university in the city. Taizō aims to advance the hotel with the latest medical science, and pulls out a device that can determine the state of living cells. The nurses then remember the dead body that is possessed by the evil spirit Mōryō, and one of them shows it off physically to Taizō. She says that the body Mōryō possessed is that of the daughter of the village chief, who died in a car accident 50 years ago. Taizō laughs it off and says that the hospital staff is just delusional, but when he pulls out his device to show the state of the woman's body, he finds out she has Kerchol cells, a rare type of cell found in one in 60 million people. People who have these cells have internal organ healing functions that are several times stronger than those of the average person. Taizō wants to study the body, but the director forbids it cause he thinks it's too dangerous. Instead, the director will bring in specialists with human resources. When Kitarō visits Shikabane, he overhears Taizō complaining. As the sun sets, Kitarō and Neko-Musume visit a temple with the specialists the hospital director hired. Neko then realizes one of the specialists is none other than Nezumi-Otoko! When Nezumi got hungry after traveling, he was taken in by Shikabane's head priest and became a monk. At night, Neko-Musume starts to work as a nurse, partly to protect the other staff from the Mōryō. As Taizō looks at the woman's body's cells, they start to move, and before long, the body itself disappears! Suddenly, the door of the room Taizō's in shuts, and the Mōryō appears from the ceiling if he placed the talisman on the body she was possessing! Taizō is then rescued by Neko, and the two of them run away from the flying Mōryō. The two of them eventually go inside an octagonal Mahōjin, and aren't seen by Mōryō again.

When morning comes and the first rooster crows, the Mōryō goes back to normal. Taizō is in disbelief in what he saw last night. Taizō then goes to the temple to apologize. Meanwhile, as Nezumi-Otoko sneaks in to steal some treasure, he opens one of the rooms to see mummies of multiple Mōryō! The head priest explains that in the past, the Mōryō attacked him while he was young, however he was able to survive after Kitarō saved him. After Taizō storms off again, Kitarō confronts him and says he can only study the Mōryō if he stopped his medical work and faced the yōkai himself. At night, the Mōryō calls out the other Chimimōryō, as Taizō starts to get scared. The Chimimōryō start to phase out of the walls, as Taizō runs away in terror and walks into the Mahōjin. The Chimimōryō surround Taizō as they call upon Dosei. After two other Chimimōryō lift up his eyelid, Dosei spots Taizō! After Taizō calls out his name, Kitarō appears, and all the Chimimōryō congratulate the boy for telling them where Taizō was. Suddenly, morning comes, and after the Bake-Garasu fly away after covering the hospital windows, all of the Chimimōryō mummify! Taizō decides not to research the Mōryō anymore, and even prays with his father and the priests as Shikabane before leaving. Meanwhile, Nezumi-Otoko goes home and quits his job as a monk, and lies down with Kitarō as Neko-Musume questions why they're friends in the first place again.
