Synopsis[]

One day, a group of Karasu-Tengu appear when Kitarō is relaxing at home, and arrests him for murdering. Although Kitarō Family who heard the news is surprised at an unreasonable arrest, they resolve to decide to face the trial in court to put black and white. Thus, the Great Yōkai Trial was held. However, somehow there is no appearance of Sunakake-Babaa on the spot and defense is one Neko-Musume. Yobuko, the witness, said he saw the scene of Hitotsume-Kozō being killed by Kitarō, and hair needles and geta are presented as evidence items. In addition, Mana seems to be a witness to the prosecution.

Plot[]

Several Karasu-Tengu, one of them being Kojirō, using a yellow mist spell and bo staff to restrain Kitarō. Questioning what is the meaning of this, Kitarō is informed by Kojirō that he is being currently arrested.

Later, the rest of Kitarō family is being informed by Medama-Oyaji that Kitarō has been charged with the obliteration of the harmless yōkai Hitotsume-Kozō and The Great Yōkai Trial will be held to decide his sentence. They commented on how Kitarō hasn't done anything to the Hitotsume-Kozō and Neko-Musume mentions how obliteration is a crime in name only, that hasn't been used since centuries ago, from an age when conflict between yōkai was unending and Sunakake-Babaa noted how The Great YōkaiTrial hasn't been held in the past centuary. They believe that Kitarō must be innocent and this is a set-up, with Nezumi-Otoko theorizing this arrest is a cover for all the yōkai Kitarō has defeated until now. They resolute themselves to reach a fair verdict in The Great YōkaiTrial and prove Kitarō's innocence.

Neko-Musume reads through old scripture of past trial records the whole night before the trial , even ignoring Mana's text messages, who was wishing to go out together with Neko-musume tommorow. While practicing his testimony, Konaki-Jijii is approached by Nezumi-Otoko, the latter offering the former an alcoholic drink, with Konaki-Jijii happily accepting the offer.

Next is a scene of Kitarō being held captive in a cave, with Nanashi noting how now Kitarō is bound by law and rhetoricly questioning the outcome of the trial.

The next day, The Great Yōkai Trial begins with Sunakake-Babaa, Ittan-Momen and Konaki-Jijii mysteriously missing, the rest of Kitarō family fearing what might have happened to them.

The Great Yokai Trial Begins!

The Great Yōkai Trial Begins!

For the trial:

  • The Victim is Hitotsume-Kozō.
  • The Defendant is the accused Kitarō, personally guarded by Kojirō, who reprimands him every time Kitaro moves or talks.
  • The Judge is Dai-Tengu with the Tengu-Police acting as guards for the premises
  • The Juri is consisting of yōkai that are shrouded in darkness due to their nocturnal nature
  • The Prosecution is Momon-Jii, requesting the sentence of a 500 year liquefaction penalty
  • The Defense is the remaining members of Kitarō family, with Neko-Musume acting as Kitarō's lawyer and the rest acting as witnesses. Neko-Musume pleads that Kitarō is innocent.

The first witness of the trial and the prosecution's only witness is Yobuko, who says he saw Kitarō obliterate Hitotsume-Kozō and shares the details of how a few days ago, while walking along the swamp to go fishing, he saw Kitarō tell the victim how he is "a yōkai who obliterates yōkai for humans" , subsequently using his Hair Needles to obliterate Hitotsume-Kozō, the event obviously having Yobuko very scared. Prosecutor Momon-Jii then submits as Evidence 1 - Hair Needles, Evidence 3 - Kitarō's Remote Control Geta and Evidence 7 - a mud footprint of a geta , with Evidence 3 and 7 being a perfect match. Neko-Musume then start to cross-examinethe testimony , noting how the swamp is barely populated and how strange the ordeal is, even suggesting how it could all be a setup. Momon-Jii objects, saying that Neko-Musume is currently misleading the witness. Dai-Tengu sustains the objections, stiking the defense's words from the record , thus ending this cross-examination. Nurikabe next takes the stand and gives out an unconvincing statement of Kitaro's innocence. The 3rd witness - Nezumi-Otoko takes the stand and introduces himself as Kitarō's best friend and says that he believes that it's entirely possible Kitarō did it, noting how Kitarō regurarly obliterates yōkai to defend humans , even mentioning Nobiagari and Tantanbō, his testimony making the jury comment on the revealation, with Neko-Musume almost attacking Nezumi-Otoko, but Dai-Tengu returning order in the court before it happening and ending the cros-examination.

Unexpectedly, Momon-Jii request an additional "very important witness" to take the stand, it being the human Mana Inuyama, surprising everybody there. She is kept as a witness despite her human nature, because of her free access to Gegege Forest, thus Dai-Tengu accepting her as a witness. Mana is thus led by Momon-Jii to say that her and Kitarō are friends and that she has witnessed several yōkai being obliterated by him, but nothing he never did anything wrong. Her testimony made the jury be filled with malice , which was then consumed by Nanashi. She is even further lead to confirm that the hairs and geta are Kitarō's.

The trial then ends with the verdict of guilty having been reached. Mana and Neko-Musume hastily run out of the court, while Medama-Oyaji starts to distract Dai-Tengu with stories of Kitaro's adventures. Meanwhile the two heroines discover the drunkunly sleeping Konaki-Jijii, the tied up to a tree with rope Sunakake-Babaa and Ittan-Momen having being stuck to a tree by Momon-Jii's Nose Hair Bind, with them theorizing the hairs to be what was used as a substitute for Kitaro's Hair Needles. The gang then discover Nezumi-Otoko to have briefcases filled with yen bills , their worth being of around "at least a hundred million". Nezumi-Otoko is then convinced by Mana Inuyama's sadness to confess before court with the Kitaro family and her ariving back in court just as the execution was going to take place. Nezumi-Otoko then confesses that his testimony is a lie and than he stole the geta and gave it to Momon-Jii, later returning it to Kitarō. Questioning if they should trust this new testimony, but then Ittan-Momen submits the binding nosehairs that were used on him , with the court finding them to match the fake Hair Needles. The court then captures Momon-Jii, who confesses to striking a deal with a nameless creature that granted him Kitaro's form. Dai-Tengu then sentences Momon-Jii for his crimes to 700 years of liquefaction and Nezumi-Otoko to 100 spankings for falsifying evidence.

The trial having ended, Kitaro promises to treat Mana and Neku-Musume to anmitsu dessert set from a tea shop as to the latter girl's rhetorical reward. Kitaro thinks to himself as he leaves the court to go have a nap that it must have been Nanashi that was the mastermind behind this setup. At the end of the episode, Nanashi stops time, and levitates Mana from the ground, and takes off his mask to add all of the malice from the trial, and placed it into her left part of her head, with the character symbolizing the element of Metal, "金" (kin). Nanashi resumes time, but gave Mana more fear of him being around her.
