Shirobōzu (白坊主 Shirobōzu, lit. White Monk) is a yōkai and resident of Yōkai Yokochō. He is an employee of Wanyūdō, along with Kasha.[1]

Appearance[]

In the 2007 anime, Shirobōzu is a ghostly Yōkai, having pale blue skin and no legs. He lacks any facial features except for a mouth and a pair of black spiral marks. He wears a purple kimono that has a green spiral triad pattern and narrows into a whispy tail. Tied around his waist is a green sash.

2007 Anime[]

He is the 17th of the chosen 47 Yōkai Warriors and the representative of Osaka Prefecture. Along with Kasha and Wanyūdō, Shirobōzu appears and becomes one of the 47 Yōkai Warriors in episode #90 of the fifth anime adaptation, New Year's Great Rampage! Kitarō-Kasha[1].

He later appears in GeGeGe no Kitarō: Nippon Bakuretsu!!. Shirobōzu appears as one of the multitude of Yōkai parading through cities due to Yato-no-Kami's influence. He is later returned to where he came from after Hana agrees to follow Yato-no-Kami. Later, he appeared among the discovered Yōkai Warriors to help Kitarō fight off Yato-no-Kami.[2]

Powers and Abilities[]

Levitation: Shirobōzu is able to float a few feet above the ground.

Light Generation: Shirobōzu is able to make engulf his head in a bright light.[1]

Legend[]

Shirobōzu is a yōkai that appeared in the Izumi province, which is now the Osaka Prefecture and is said to be a type of Nopperabō. Like the Nopperabō, it is a faceless yōkai that scares wandering travelers.

They are rumored to be a transformation of a kitsune, but local elders disagree for the kitsune in the region always appear wearing indigo-dyed striped kimonos, so the true identity of the Shirobōzu is unknown.
