The Tengu Police (天狗ポリス) are a yōkai police force comprised mostly of Karasu-Tengu. They first appeared in the Shonen Magazine story The Great Yōkai Trial.
Description
Headed by the Dai-Tengu, their duties include arresting evil yōkai, guarding the prison and carrying out executions. In place of handcuffs, they restrain criminals by placing a snake around their hands. When they restrained Ittan-Momen in episode #74 of the fifth anime, they tied his arms together. As most members are Karasu-Tengu, they can also fly and form an air force during battle.
In The Great Yōkai Trial, they are tricked by Momon-Jii (Nurarihyon in the fourth anime and Yōkai Sen Monogatari, Kūko in the live-action film) into arresting Kitarō. After Kitarō's innocence is proven, they arrest and execute the real culprit. Nezumi-Otoko, who was paid to lie in his testimony against Kitarō, is also arrested in most adaptations of the story.
In the 2007 anime, they continue to appear after the trial. It is established that their headquarters, Tengu Temple, is located in the Hida Mountains. Kuro-Karasu, the ace of the Tengu Police, has a recurring role in the series.
