Tsuraraonna are yōkai from snowy areas of the Tōhoku region said to be icicles that transformed into women. Being ice yōkai, they are similar to the Yuki-Onna.
On a snowy night in Akita prefecture, a man named Chōsuke and his wife found a young, fair-skinned woman knocking on the door, asking if she could stay for the night. The snow did not stop for the next ten days so the woman had to prolong her stay, during this time the woman and the couple began to bond with each other. But Chōsuke eventually requested the woman to take a warm bath. She initially refused, but after the couple insisted, she reluctantly entered the bathroom and never came out. Worried, the couple entered the bath and saw that all that was there was an icicle hanging from the ceiling.
In another story from the Aomori Prefecture, a man fell in love and married a woman during winter, but she disappeared when the snow melted. The man grieved and tried to look for her, but he could not find her, eventually giving up and marrying another woman. However, when the next winter came, the woman returned and admonished the man for his infidelity. The man retorted that he doesn't want a wife who disappears without explanation and demanded that she leave. Suddenly, the woman transformed into an icicle and killed the man by piercing him in the chest.
