Legend[]
Waira are unusual yōkai that live in the mountains. They are bull or rhinoceros-like creatures with claws as sharp as sickles, which they use to capture and feed on moles and rarely humans. The males are earth-colored and the females are colored red. Because yōkai bestiaries such as the Gazu Hyakki Yagyō put them and the Otoroshi next to each other, it is believed that the two yōkai are related in some way.
