The Yōkai Monsters Series (妖怪シリーズ Yōkai Shirīzu, lit.Yōkai Series) is a series live-action film by Daiei Film and one of its successors Kadokawa.

About[]

Both Dai-Majin and Yōkai Monsters franchises were launched by Daiei Film as the company was literally "saved" by the success of the Gamera franchise, and casting and filming techniques were largely influenced by the Gamera and the Dai-Majin series.

Along with other Daiei franchises, expansions and reboot attempts of the series were severely hindered by bankrupts of Daiei Films and Tokuma Shoten, resulting in the below-mentioned Yokai Heaven in 1986 and Sakuya Yokaiden in 2000 to be produced by different companies using the concepts of rebooting the series by Daiei Film and Tokuma Shoten. However, both films were created by staffs of previous Daiei films especially Showa and Heisei adaptations of the Gamera series including the director Tomoo Haraguchi. Shigeru Mizuki appeared as a guest in the Yokai Heaven.
