Trivia[]
- The relationship between Yōkaijū and Gyōbu-Danuki in the The Great Yōkai War: Guardians is loosely based on Kōryū and Gyōbu-Danuki in the GeGeGe no Kitarō series as the tanukis want to use the monsters to destroy Tokyo and humanities in both series. Gyōbu-Danuki in The Great Yokai War: Guardians wanted to utilize Yōkaijū to break the seal of Daidarabotchi, who is regarded as the origin of Yokai, to eliminate humanity.
- The Yomotsu-Mono appeared in the 2005 film The Great Yōkai War bears similarities and contrasts to the 2021 Yōkaijū in backgrounds and characteristics. For instance, both are giant flying monsters and are accumulation of spirits that couldn't have been able to rest in peace.
- Within the prequel novelization The Great Yōkai War: Guardians: Side Story: Heian Hyakkitan, Nue instead appeared as the "False Yōkaijū" who were defeated by Gamera instead of Dai-Majin.[1]
