Yama-Arashi is a yōkai whose entire body is covered with sharp needle-like hair. Whenever they get angry, they use their thorns to shoot at people like arrows.
They usually stay in the mountains, but sometimes come down to human villages to raid grain crops. Even though they are highly dangerous yōkai, they are highly valuable if captured, as their hair can be used to make hairpins and their skins are used to craft shoes. Similar to the ningyo, it's said that eating the flesh of this yokai can bring about long life, but unfortunately, the flesh of this yokai is also said to contain poison, so eating one may prove fatal.
In the Wakayama Prefecture, Yama-Arashi and Shii are said to be the same yōkai, where they use their needle-like hair to frighten cows, so cattle owners would command their cattle to move forward by saying, "Shii shii," to warn that there is a Shii nearby.
