History[]
Manga[]
Yangtze Suiko appears in the Shonen Magazine story, Yōkai Rally. In this story, he represents China in the titular rally at Sado Island. While racing, he reads a book, and so waits for it to get dry after crossing a river. In the page he read, it said to not let Gremlin win, so he obliges and drains gas from Gremlin. However, since Gremlin did the same for him, he was unable to finish the race and lost.

Yangtze Suiko appears in episode # 54 of the first anime adaptation, Yōkai Rally. In this adaptation, he no longer has to dry his book, and when his fuel manages to leak, it causes Gremlin, Wolfman and Frankenstein to lose balance. They all fight each other but later agree to defeat Kitarō. The three sneak attack on him, but Yangtze Suiko is defeated after being exposed to Tsurube-Bi's fire.
1985 Anime[]
Yangtze Suiko appears in episode # 51 of the third anime adaptation, World Yōkai Rally. In this adaptation, he first drives into buildings of Sado Island with the other participants of the rally, calling out Kitarō's name. When he agrees to join, he boldly proclaims he will take over Japan. In the rally, he started off in the fifth place, and later tried to bump Kitarō's jalopy with Frankenstein, and the two later catch up to Backbeard and Wolfman. He later falls off a suspension bridge Frankenstein cuts, and as a result, wasn't rescued by Kitarō.

- The book Yangzte Suiko reads in the manga is Quotations from Chairman Mao, while in the first anime is the Analects.
- While his appearance and personality is different, Yangtze Suiko in the 1968 anime is said to be the same Suiko Kitarō fought previously.
- While the character has not appeared as a full fledged villain in the franchise, a small Chinese yōkai closely resembling Yangtze Suiko's 1985 design was briefly seen attending the World Villain Yōkai Summit in the 2008 movie GeGeGe no Kitarō: Nippon Bakuretsu!!.
- The rivalry between Yangtze Suiko and Gremlin is most likely a reference to how their representative countries, China and the Soviet Union, were clashing around the time the story was published.
