Yuki-Onna (雪女, snow woman) are yōkai. They only live in snowy places and are never known to travel long distances, especially not during any seasons aside from winter.

History

The Yuki-Onna that appeared in the fourth anime was initially an enemy who then became a friend of Kitaro. In the fifth anime, Aoi, a Yuki-Onna, is a spirit warrior.

Yuki-Onna is a spirit or yōkai in Japanese folklore. She is a popular figure in Japanese literature, manga, and animation. Yuki-Onna are sometimes confused with Yama-Uba ("mountain crone"), but they are not the same.
