Yuki-Onna (雪女 Yuki-Onna, lit. Snow Woman) is a Yuki-Onna.
Appearance[]
In the manga, Yuki-Onna is a lady with long hair, an egg-shaped head, small, sleepy eyes, a small, round nouse, and a pale kimono.
In the 1968 anime, Yuki-Onna has a more womanly face and darker hair and eyelids. Curiously, she looks like Mitsuko, the young girl she froze, though this may be just a coincidence.
In the 1985 anime, Yuki-Onna looks more like her manga design, with tan skin and white hair and kimono.
In the 1996 anime, Yuki-Onna has a slightly more oblong-shaped, and now has bluish-pale skin, light-blue hair, and a baby-blue kimono with blue obi.
Personality[]
In the 58th episode of the 1996 Anime, she was somewhat warm to Kitarō than her husband as she replied to Yukinko's request to spare Kitarō's life, her answer was that "if he can live with us from now on". Despite harshness towards Kitarō, her family's attacks on humans were to save wildlife from poaching.
In the 1985 anime, while it was implied that they would revive after being melted, it is unclear whether or not the Yuki-Onna who later appeared as an ally of Kitarō with Tsurara-Onna was the same individual.
History[]
Manga[]
Yuki-Onna first appeared in the Shonen Magazine story, Yukinko. She lived with Yuki-Otoko and Yukinko, capturing people's souls in Daisetsuzan, Hokkaido, and trapping them in an ice candy she licks while freezing their bodies. Her and the rest of family freeze Kitarō in their cave home, but after he melts his way into unfreezing himself, they all melt. As one last resort, they merge into an ice giant, but are once again defeated.
Yuki-Onna also appeared in Saishinban GeGeGe no Kitarō, first appearing in the story, The Yōkai Seven Mysteries, in the crowd in the great yōkai meeting held by Nurarihyon. He is one of Hyakki Yagyō-Shū led by Yagyō-san. She also appears in the story, The Revived Yōkai Army's Counterattack!, being one of the many villains revived by Nurarihyon using the Yōkai Kōro, but was defeated by a Wanyūdō. A seemingly different Yuki-Onna also appears in Shinigami Tai-Senki to fight the Western Yōkai.

Yuki-Onna appears in episode # 48 of the first anime adaptation, Yukinko. In this adaptation, her and the rest of the family were responsible for extracting the souls of villagers who went into the Daisetsuzan mountain range in Hokkaido. She was first seen appearing behind Nezumi-Otoko, and later froze his body and sucked out his soul. She appears to help Yukinko freeze Kitarō, but was melted by his, but was later melted by his Yōkai Radiation ability.
