Yumeko Tendō (天童 夢子 Tendō Yumeko) is a young human girl, and the older sister of Hoshirō Tendō. She appears in the 1985 anime, where she serves as a new friend and potential love interest for Kitarō.

Appearance[]

Yumeko wears a blue dress, with white sleeves and a white-collar. She has long, brown hair, with short bangs that reach her eyebrows. She wears white socks, with matching blue shoes.

Personality[]

Yumeko is a very kind girl who shares the belief that humans and yōkai should co-exist peacefully. Although she's the object of Nezumi-Otoko’s affection, she would much rather prefer to spend time with Kitarō. Due to her fondness for the yōkai boy, she often bickers and fights with Neko-Musume.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Masao Tendō and Yūko Tendō[]

Masao and Yūko are Yumeko's parents.

Other[]

Kitarō[]

Neko-Musume[]

Nezumi-Otoko[]

Nezumi-Otoko's fondness for Yumeko is anything but subtle, with the former often attempting to kiss or hug her in inappropriate ways. Despite this, she puts up with him, and often uses his infatuation to her advantage in order to help Kitarō and others.[1]

Shu-no-Bon[]

Yumeko is one of the few people who's willing to show kindness to Shu-no-Bon, with the latter calling her an "angel".[2] Shu-no-Bon will often betray Nurarihyon in order to help her, and it's heavily implied that he has a crush on her. His fondness for her is depicted as less "extreme" than Nezumi-Otoko's, however. Thanks to Yumeko, Shu-no-Bon turns a new leaf, and sacrifices himself in order to save Kitarō and others from Nurarihyon during the finale of the Jigoku Arc.[3]

Etymology[]

  • The name Yumeko means "dream, vision" (夢 yume) and "child" (子 ko), while her surname, Tendō, means "cherub, gods disguised as children, or children parading as cherubs" (天童 Tendō). Her full name can be roughly translated as "dream child from the heavens".
